Events at Camp Maubila

SCOUTS BSA SUMMER CAMP is held every June at Camp Maubila. Scouts learn basic scouting skills as well as work on merit badges, play games, enjoy the waterfront, learn and qualify in shooting sports, and much more.

CUB SCOUT RESIDENT CAMP is our annual Cub Scout level resident camp for younger scouts and their family to get away for a three night outdoor camping experience. Games, crafts, advancement, and hiking are are just part of the outdoor Scouting experience.

SCOUTS BSA WINTER CAMP is our annula post-holiday getaway to Camp Maubila for cooler weather camping. Merit badges and fellowship are focused in this three night camping experience. This is a great time to try out those new camping gadgets received as Christmas gifts.

*All program events are applicable for campership consideration.

Annual Health & Medical Record

Health and Medical Records need to be on file for each Council or District Campout or event.

It’s always Camping Season! As a reminder, be sure to encourage ALL participants to fully complete the Annual Health & Medical Record (AHMR) for ALL activities. And yes, the 2019 version is current.

To be sure to have the most current information, remember to link to the AHMR, and don’t host your own version.

If you have questions, contact [email protected].

Downloadable PDFS:

  • Parts A & B - For all events/all participants less than 72 hours in duration.
  • Parts A, B & C - For events/resident camps lasting 72 hours or more.
  • Risk Advisory - Don’t forget the Risk Advisory for each of the High Adventure Bases. This should be reviewed with your healthcare provider at the time of your pre-participation exam.
  • Council Based High Adventure Program - We’ve built this template for you to develop your own risk advisory for your council high adventure program to share with your campers.
  1. Consider joining as part of a Council Contingent for your first trip. The council offers annual council contingents to Philmont, and we have begun to offer trips to Northern Tier as well. We take much of the planning and logistics work off the unit leaders – their main responsibility becomes advising the youth attending to be sure they are physically ready for the experience, ensure their safety, and help develop them as leaders. Learn more about these opportunities further down on this page.
  2. If you want to plan a trip yourself to give you more flexibility, each of the High Adventure Bases has unit-based experiences to choose from throughout the year based on the base you are attending and when you want to do the trip.

BSA HIGH ADVENTURE BASES

PHILMONT

Philmont Scout Ranch is the Boy Scouts of America’s oldest national high-adventure base. It covers 137,000 acres – about 214 square miles – of rugged mountain wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo (Blood of Christ) range of the Rocky Mountains in northern New Mexico.

Thirty-four staffed camps and 55 trail camps are operated by the ranch. Philmont has high mountains dominating rough terrain with elevations ranging from 6,500 to 12,441 feet.

Philmont Scout Ranch provides an unforgettable adventure in sky-high backpacking country along hundreds of miles of rugged, rocky trails. Program features combine the best of the Old West – horseback riding, burro packing, gold panning, chuck wagon dinners, and interpretive history – with exciting challenges for today, such as rock climbing, burro racing, mountain biking, and .30-06 rifle shooting.

Key leaders for Traditional Charter Organization Units

Institutional Head

The person who leads the charter organization is the Institutional Head. For example, it may be the pastor, priest, or rabbi at a place of worship, the principal at an educational institution, or the president of a local civic organization.

Chartered Organization Representative

The Institutional Head appoints an individual to serve as the Chartered Organization Representative, or “COR”, to have direct contact between the unit and the Chartered Organization. COR’s are also members of the district committee and voting members of the local council. The COR is responsible for appointing the unit committee Chair for the unit committee.

Committee Chair

The Committee Chair must be approved by the IH and the COR. The Committee Chair oversees the unit account and appoints the unit treasurer, adhering to the BSA Fiscal Policies and Procedures and Unit Money Earning Guidelines. The Committee Chair, with the support of the committee, is responsible for ensuring safe program practices and helps recruit other unit positions per BSA guidelines.

Unit Committee

Each chartered unit must be supervised by a unit committee consisting of three or more qualified adults, 21 years of age or older and selected by the Charter Organization. One member of the committee must be designated Chairperson. The unit must be operated under the guidance of the unit committee and in accordance with the Rules and Regulations, policies, and guidelines of the Boy Scouts of America.

Unit Treasurer

The Unit Treasurer handles all unit funds and secures proper authorizations for the unit. The Unit Treasurer pays bills, supervises money-earning projects, and reports back to the Unit Committee on the receipt and application of funds at each meeting.

Unit Program Leaders

Two registered adult leaders 21 years of age or over must attend all Scouting activities, including meetings. A registered adult female leader must attend any activity Boy Scouts of America Traditional Charter Organization Units: Guidelines 2 September 28, 2021 involving female youth. In addition, age- and program-appropriate supervision must always be provided at Scouting activities.

In Cub Scouting, units may have a separate pack for boys or girls, or separate dens for girls and dens for boys in the same pack. A pack may also opt to be a Family Pack, where it contains both all boy dens and all girl dens within their Family Pack environment. In the case of troops, separate troops for boys and girls are required. Chartered organizations may have “linked troops,” which means a chartered organization can have a shared troop committee with separate troops for boys and for girls.

The chartered organization must select its COR and must approve unit leaders. The local council must process unit leader applications submitted on the proper form in accordance with guidelines established by the Boy Scouts of America. All units must be operated in accordance with the applicable policies and guidelines of the Boy Scouts of America.

Starting A Pack or Troop

Scouting units require adult leaders, youth, and a chartering organization. First the chartering organization agrees to adopt the Scouting program. Then you must recruit and train the leaders. Once you have your trained leaders, recruit the youth. From there you can plan your program year, complete the paperwork, and hold your first meeting.

District Scouter Awards

Scouting leaders are an integral part of the scouting program. Without them, there would be no way to lead our District's troops, packs, or crews and teach scouts skills that they will need as adults. Over the years, many have shown dedication to their unit and have received awards that show their commitment to scouting.

Please submit your nomination(s) for the District Award of Merit and Percy Pearson to our Advancement Chair and your Unit leader recognition (i.e. -knots) to our Training Chair before our annual Awards banquet.
